More photos of Morgan

For those who have been asking for more photos of Morgan I present http://flickr.com/gp/64789210@N07/3M1Mu2

I’m still learning how to photograph moving, black, hairy puppies so bare with me.

Please let me know if this link doesn’t work. I’m using Flickr for the first time.

We’ve expanded our family

I’ve been neglecting this blog for a while, but we’re so excited about the latest news that I had to get back to it.

Five months after losing Schooner we felt we were dogless long enough. We decided to adopt a rescue dog, but after visiting several humane societies and rescue groups we just couldn’t find a suitable dog. So we broke down, went to a breeder and adopted/bought a 3 month old black Labradoodle. We’ve had him for only one night so far and of course he cried most of the night in his kennel. It was tempting to bring him to bed with us but that’s not what one is supposed to do, so we didn’t. Hope tonight goes better.

What I’ve learned about black dogs is that they’re very hard to photograph. All the still photos I’ve taken of him just look like a black blob and don’t show off his cuteness. This Youtube video is a little better, but not great. http://youtu.be/tOizAT8lK-I

Friday Harbor C-Dory gathering

On the boating front we recently came back from a C-Dory owners rally in Friday Harbor, WA. Was great meeting a nice group of people and learned a lot. We drove there rather than taking the boat as we don’t yet have a towing vehicle. Up until now we’ve only been able to travel up and down the Columbia and Willamette Rivers which has been somewhat limiting. I have an appointment tomorrow to look at a 2005 Chevy Suburban with an 8 liter V8 which should be adequate to tow our 8500 lb boat and trailer combo.

I hope to display some more dog photos as soon as I figure out the proper exposure.

C-Dory in our boatwell

Settling in has taken more time than I thought. Guess that’s why I’ve been neglecting my blog.

Well we just got our new boat, so we’re officially settled.

She’s a 2007 C-Dory 25 which we bought from Bob & Betsy, a lovely couple in Bend, OR. They have used her extensively throughout the US (it’s a trailable boat), so she has lots of experience.

Once we get the hang of her we’ll hopefully be able to report on some new adventures.

Settling In

Slips 2We’ve been here about a week now. I’ve been too busy to blog. Still unpacking and learning about living in a floating home (things like logs, stringers, honeypots etc.). Above is a photo of our house from the river side. (Not sure which is considered the front or back of the house). The large darker colored rectangular object is the garage door for our boat (which we haven’t purchased yet).

We’ve been waking up to temperatures in the high 20’s and fog. (I miss Florida already). I’m told though that the weather in the summer here is the best in the country. (We’ll see).

Well I better get back to work.

New Adventure

We’ve rented out our house in Florida and bought a “floating home” on the Columbia River in Portland, OR. We left Florida Jan. 2nd and today we’re in Las Cruces, NM. Should be in Portland the 9th or 10th. (assuming we don’t get stuck in a snowstorm).

We’re taking the southern route (I-10) to avoid the snow at the mountain passes in the Rockies, but despite this it’s been freezing at night (literally) and snowing in Texas. Luckily Janice insisted I buy warm clothes for the trip and winter life in Portland.

Schooner our 13 y.o. Lab passed away today. He will be missed by the nursing home patients he comforted, the school children he helped learn to read, the neighborhood children, the Humane Society volunteers and most of all by us. He was the best dog one could ever hope for.

Goodbye

Goodbye

This is the last trip Latitude Adjustment will make from our home. Taken by her new owners.

Sold!

Well we did it. A lot faster than I thought. We closed today and the new owners will be sailing her away from our dock tomorrow AM. It was a pretty smooth transaction and I think Latitude Adjustment will be in good hands.

As for our next adventure, we decided to move to Portland, Or and live on a houseboat. Over the next several months we will be taking trips there (by airplane) looking for a place to live.

We’ll keep you informed.

Latitude Adjustment is for sale

After much thought and sleepless nights Janice and I have decided to put Latitude Adjustment up for sale. It’s not that we don’t love her anymore. We both just decided that my age related ailments (mainly a bad back) make it difficult to continue the sailing lifestyle.

We’re in no hurry to sell her therefore at this time we’re not using a broker. When we do sell her we’ll probably get a trawler or a small bay type boat.

You can see the ad at: Latitude Adjustment for sale or by clicking the menu at the top of this page.

Feel free to post the link anywhere you can.

I probably won’t be adding to this blog much unless something exciting happens. I thank all my loyal followers.

Alan
